Conditions of participation

1. General information

1.1 By entering the competition you hereby accept these terms and conditions.

1.2 The competition is free to enter.

1.3 The competition is open to everyone.

1.4 Entries must be submitted by 12.00:00 am (GMT) on January 15, 2017.

1.5 By entering the prize question, you agree and acknowledge that the organisers are permitted to receive your registration data. All participants are required to provide their name, email address, telephone number, and − if applicable − institutional affiliation upon submitting their contribution. Your address and telephone number will not be disclosed or shared without your explicit permission.


2. Submissions (format, registration)

2.1 To enter, you must submit your contribution via entry-form (registration).

2.2 Entries may take all imaginable forms, from academic or literary to artistic, audio-visual, and musical submissions. Format:

2.2.1 Audio file: WAV or MP3 format (44100 Hz, 16 bit), for multi-channel works: please submit an additional stereo version.

2.2.2 Audio-visual file/video: For audio-visual work up to 7 minutes, please submit a link to your video in MPEG-4 format via the relevant section of the online form. The submission of the actual file will not be accepted, so please host on your own server, or through a video site like YouTube or Vimeo.

2.2.3 Apps or Web-Applications: Web-Apps habe to be compatible to current versions of Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. Mobile Apps can either be for Android 4.4 and above or for iOS 7.1.2 and above (all projects with limited access to Google Play/Apple App Store are welcome).

2.3 Entries must be submitted in English or German. Contributions in other languages will not be considered.

2.4 All entries must be submitted along with a title. Non-textual contributions must be accompanied by a short description of their content and relevance to the prize question in one of the languages specified above (300 words max). Incomplete entries will not be considered.


3. Evaluation process and prize winning ceremony

3.1 Entries will be judged between January 2017 and May 2017.

3.2 Winners will be notified by email by May 2017 and will receive an invitation to the Award Ceremony, which takes place in Berlin in June 2017. Their travel expenses and accommodation in Berlin will be covered by the organisers.

3.3 The decision of the jury is final and no negotiation will be entered into with respect to any such decision.

3.4 Each participant may submit one contribution only.

3.5 The organisers reserve the right to disqualify and remove any contribution that does not comply with the following requirements, even after the entry has been submitted or registered via the website. You warrant and represent as follows:

a) You are the sole owner(s) and author(s) of the contribution submitted.

b) You have the right to make your entry available to the competition.

c) Your contribution has not been submitted as part of any other contest and has not already won awards in any other contexts.

d) You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and submitted contribution for the purposes of advertising, promotion, and publicity without compensation.

e) Your entry does not contain personally identifiable information about you or any other person(s), unless you have obtained permission from them to submit and publish the material.

f) Your contribution does not contain any infringing, threatening, abusive, harassing, libellous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, pornographic, or profane content. It does not contain any material that gives rise to civil liability or otherwise violates any law.

g) Your contribution does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual and industrial property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity.


4. Authorship

The organisers recognise that you, the author of the contribution you submitted, retain full ownership of the copyright. Objects, artefacts, and works of art remain the property of the participant and will be returned upon explicit request within one year after the deadline. After that date, they may be archived, disposed, or destroyed at the discretion of the organisers. Prize winning items may be retained indefinitely for the purposes of promotion and exhibition.


5. Rights of use

By participating in this competition, you give your consent that your contribution, or parts thereof, may be used by the organisers for promotional purposes in non-commercial contexts. You hereby grant the organisers a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence throughout the world in all media for any use connected to the promotion of the prize question, including, but not limited to: 

a) judging the competition;

b) displaying the contribution at public exhibitions promoting the prize question;

c) inclusion within any website, a brochure, magazine or similar;

d) inclusion within any materials promoting the competition and / or any exhibition prepared by the organisers;

e) sub-licensing the submission to the press for reproduction and for making it available to the public in connection with the competition and any exhibition;


6. Liability and Security

The organisers assume no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate, or incomplete information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in the competition, and assume no responsibility for technical, hardware, or software failure of any kind, for lost network connections, garbled computer transmissions, other problems or technical malfunctions with regard to the competition. The organisers assume no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of submitted contributions. If for any reason your entry cannot be viewed, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, or technical failures, the organisers assume no responsibility.


7. Indemnification

In no event will the organisers be responsible or liable for any damages or losses of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of any user’s access to and use of the website.
